The orthopaedic specialty physicians and the entire staff at SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates knows how important it is to all of our patients to be able to get quality and comprehensive orthopaedic care, all in one location.   We provide complete diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services at our locations.

Our Physical Therapy department has three locations, Downtown Columbus, Dublin, and Pickerington.  Our Occupational Therapy department has two locations, Downtown Columbus and Dublin.  We have a therapy staff of licensed physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, certified and licensed athletic trainers and licensed massage therapists who provide the latest rehabilitation treatments with the most up-to-date protocols.  With dedication and commitment, we are focused on our patients’ outcomes and satisfaction.

Our hours of operation at all three of our clinics are:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday:    7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday:                    9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
We are a comprehensive team of professionals with advanced degrees, specialized training, and years of excellent experience.  They include:

This team also includes physicians who specialize in orthopaedic surgery, primary care sports medicine and other orthopaedic sub-specialties.  Everyone on our team is specialty trained in sports medicine and orthopaedics and works together to develop treatment plans based on proven protocols, yet specific to each individual patient.  This teamwork provides our patients the best diagnosis, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation in central Ohio and throughout the state.
Our key is a specialized approach to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of common sports and orthopaedic injuries and conditions.  We start with compassion and understanding. We treat many injuries in the same way that we treat the injuries of professional athletes, just in a toned-down manner, carefully developed for each individual.  Much of our practice is treating non-athletes who want specialized care and treatment similar to what we provide the professional, collegiate and scholastic athletes.

Physical Therapy for Hip & Knee Replacement and Revisions:
SMGOA Physical Therapy provides a comprehensive post-surgical regiment for patients recovering from total hip or knee surgery or from a hip or knee revision surgery.
Total joint replacement can minimize or alleviate a patient's pain and restore function to their joints. This is a wonderful, life enhancing procedure, but recovery time is frequently dependent on a patients' compliance to physical therapy.
Our physical therapy program for joint replacement guides each patient through the various stages of recovery. From use of mobility aids, like walkers and canes, to increasing flexibility and strength, our staff is right beside our patients every step of the way.
Occupational Therapy Program:
Our Occupational Therapists work very closely with Dr. Gary Millard, our hand surgeon. They work together to develop treatment plans and programs designed help each individual recover quicker from their injuries or from a surgical procedure.
Functional Capacity Evaluations:
SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates offers a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) as a tool to measure and assess the functional work capacity of an injured worker.
The FCE is a physical motion and movement test that lasts about 90 minutes. During this time, the injured worker will complete several repetitive motions and movements. These motions and movements will require them to lift, push and pull various weights and objects, all while being measured for strength and endurance. The patients also have their subjective pain level monitored and accessed during the testing procedures.
A FCE provides our physicians with valuable information, allowing them to safely release a worker back to his or her work at a safe intensity level. The test can also provide information to help identify those individuals who are not giving a full effort during the test.

Braces and Orthotics
SMGOA offers a complete line of orthopaedic braces commonly prescribed by referring physicians as well as our own physicians. We stock these braces in all of our offices so we can fit our patients quickly and properly.  Our orthopaedic assistant, Megan Scott, MS, ATC, is also a certified and licensed athletic trainer who has worked with athletes for many years.  This experience helps her better understand brace fitting for athletes and non-athletes to help each patient achieve a comfortable fit with each brace that is prescribed.
We have custom braces, as well as off-the-shelf options, to suite each individual patient best.  She fits many patients with off-the-shelf brace that works for a wider variety of patients and can be more economical.  When deemed necessary, Megan can order a custom fit brace directly from the company.  This custom fit option tailors the brace to your body shape more specifically for a better fit, providing better function and protection.
Our orthotics fabrication is completed based on a computer model of your foot and stride and is generally combined with a rehabilitation program to help with the long-term success of your orthotic use.

MRI–Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Taking a look inside…

SMGOA offers an on-site MRI in our downtown office.  Our MRI is in a relaxed setting and is patient friendly and comfortable.  We offer flexible appointments and fast results.  We use the latest in (1.0T) MRI technology from Philips Medical Systems.  The images are sent directly to ProScan in Cincinnati for diagnosis by a nationally renowned radiologist who specializes in reading MRI scans.  If you are not visiting our downtown office, for your convenience, we will help you schedule an appointment with one of the many area companies that offer MRI services.

At SMGOA, we understand the need for fast and accurate diagnostic results.  We know our patients want to know what may be wrong with their injured body part and they want to do it in a fast, but comfortable manner.  We make every effort to make sure our patients are relaxed and comfortable when undergoing an MRI scan.
Our magnetic resonance imaging unit is a full-size unit capable of scanning every orthopaedic joint in the body.  It is located in our downtown office and we have flexible scheduling.  Scans are often scheduled following an in-office examination by a physician and it is determined that further testing is required to differentiate specific injuries.  This makes it convenient for our patients so they do not have to return for another appointment for a scan.   Results from MRI scans are reported directly to our physicians so we can get the results to you quickly.

Orthopaedic Surgery
When one of our board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons recommends surgery as the appropriate treatment option for your sports injury or orthopaedic condition/problem, we offer both Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery through Grant Medical Center. Our physicians use custom designed operating suites located on the second floor, just above our downtown office, as well as the operating suites in the main hospital. We also have physician privileges at various hospitals and operating suites around Columbus and in Lancaster, including.
  • Fairfield Medical Center (Dr. DeGenova – Spine Surgery)
  • Dublin Methodist Hospital (Dr. Millard – Hand Surgery)
  • Doctors Hospital West (Dr. Philbin)

SMGOA offers both outpatient and inpatient surgery for the following:

  • Arthroscopic surgery for sports medicine injuries, conditions and disorders

  • Foot & ankle injuries, conditions and disorders
  • Hand and upper extremity injuries, conditions and disorders
 
Our physicians each have specific days that they schedule surgery and we can usually accommodate your scheduling needs. The typical surgery protocol includes:
  • Insurance approval
  • Necessary pre-surgery paperwork/forms
  • 12-hour fast before arriving to the hospital
  • Pre-surgery admission
  • Pre-surgery preparation
  • Surgical procedure
  • Post-surgical follow-up with physician
  • Discharge
  • One-week post-operative visit with physician
  • Physical therapy
