Specialization
SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates is a multi-disciplined, orthopaedic physician practice. Our physicians specialize in one area of orthopaedics, allowing them to focus on providing our patients with expert care and treatment.
Sports Medicine
Sports Medicine, the reason we were founded, is a very important aspect of our practice.  We have The board certified and fellowship trained physicians, three surgical and one non-surgical, who treat athletes and everyday patients from all walks of life.  Even though someone may not be an athlete, we treat their injuries in a manner similar to the sports injuries of our professional or collegiate athletes.
Joint Replacement and Revisions
Many patients have arthritic or degenerative knee and hip joints or have suffered traumatic injuries to their knee or hip.  At, SMGOA, we provide the latest and most up-to-date technology and techniques available to treat and manage their injuries and/or conditions.  If necessary, we may perform total knee or hip replacements, or maybe knee or hip revisions, to help restore an individual’s quality of life by decreasing pain and increasing their functional ability or activities of daily living (ADL’s).  Robert Fada, MD is our Director of Joint Replacement and Revision.
He sees patients at all three of our central Ohio locations , Downtown Columbus, Dublin and in Pickerington.  He also sees patients regionally in Dayton, Ohio and Huntington, West Virginia

Dr. Fada’s patients come from all walks of life and varied backgrounds.  Many are individuals that have worked hard all their life and have most recently been experiencing joint pain due to arthritis or other disorders.  Other older patients may have suffered a traumatic injury, such as a fractured hip from a fall.  Whether it is conservative non-surgical treatments, or surgical intervention, Dr. Fada works to restore their normal activities of daily living and often…pain free living.

Dr. Fada also has other patients that may be former high school, college or professional athletes who have endured years and years of overuse and have simply worn their joints out and are seeking relief from pain or discomfort.  Dr. Fada also treats these patients in a manner conducive to their goals of a continued active lifestyle.

Spine Health
Paul DeGenova, DO, Director of Spinal Care and Surgery, treats patients that are experiencing orthopaedic back pain and/or other spinal conditions.  He uses various non-surgical treatment options and, if deemed necessary, spinal surgery.    These treatments help decrease pain and increase mobility, both of which can be very debilitating when dealing with spinal problems and conditions.  By decreasing pain we can help a patient continue an active lifestyle, return to work, or successfully resume their activities of daily living (ADL’s).
Shoulder Pain and Conditions

The shoulder is a complex, multi-plane joint that can be injured suddenly or over time with repetitive motions or stress.  Our board certified and fellowship trained physicians, treat many different conditions and injuries of the shoulder with non-surgical treatments and rehabilitation and when necessary, surgical intervention.  Our sports medicine physicians who specialize in injuries and conditions of the shoulder include Ray Tesner, DO, Randy Wroble, MD, Rod Comisar, MD, and Tom Rossi, MD.

Hand Care and Surgery

With Gary Millard, DO, a board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in treating the hand, wrist and upper extremity,SMGOA provides both surgical and non-surgical treatment options giving you the very best in orthopaedic care for hand, wrist, and upper extremity injuries, conditions and disorders.

Terry Philbin, DO, a board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon, provides excellent care and treatment for many foot & ankle problems.  Whether it is a non-surgical approach, or a problem requiring surgical intervention, Dr. Philbin works with each patient for a fast and safe recovery.  He educates patients on ways to minimize re-injury or to help prevent other injuries.

We are a comprehensive team of professionals with advanced degrees, specialized training, and years of excellent experience.  They include:

This team also includes physicians who specialize in orthopaedic surgery, primary care sports medicine and other orthopaedic sub-specialties.  Everyone on our team is specialty trained in sports medicine and orthopaedics and works together to develop treatment plans based on proven protocols, yet specific to each individual patient.  This teamwork provides our patients the best diagnosis, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation in central Ohio and throughout the state.
Our key is a specialized approach to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of common sports and orthopaedic injuries and conditions.  We start with compassion and understanding. We treat many injuries in the same way that we treat the injuries of professional athletes, just in a toned-down manner, carefully developed for each individual.  Much of our practice is treating non-athletes who want specialized care and treatment similar to what we provide the professional, collegiate and scholastic athletes.
PT for the professional, scholastic or recreational athlete:
Understanding the Needs of Athletes:
Since 1988, we have been providing the best physical therapy and rehabilitation services to athletes all over central Ohio.   Our team of PT’s, PTA’s and ATC’s are rehabilitation specialists who understand the needs of athletes and tailor each athlete’s rehabilitation program to individual goals.   To an athlete…"The only place to be is in the game!!!”
State-of-the-art Technology:
Our team of experts uses advanced equipment and technologies to provide information that allows them to continually monitor our patients’ progress and to modify their rehabilitation program to best suit each individual.
We’re Athletes Too:
Many of our staff are former athletes and continue to be active and competitive today.  We know what it’s like to compete at the highest level, and we’re committed to providing the very best sports and orthopaedic rehabilitation with a goal of getting our patients back to their competitive best.
Physical Therapy for Hip & Knee Replacement and Revisions:
SMGOA Physical Therapy provides a comprehensive post-surgical regiment for patients recovering from total hip or knee surgery or from a hip or knee revision surgery.
Total joint replacement can minimize or alleviate a patient’s pain and restore function to their joints.  This is a wonderful, life enhancing procedure, but recovery time is frequently dependent on a patients’ compliance to physical therapy.
Our physical therapy program for joint replacement guides each patient through the various stages of recovery.  From use of mobility aids, like walkers and canes, to increasing flexibility and strength, our staff is right beside our patients every step of the way.
Occupational Therapy Program:
Our Occupational Therapists work very closely with Dr. Gary Millard, our hand surgeon.  They work together to develop treatment plans and programs designed help each individual recover quicker from their injuries or from a surgical procedure.
Functional Capacity Evaluations:
SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates offers a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) as a tool to measure and assess the functional work capacity of an injured worker.
The FCE is a physical motion and movement test that lasts about 90 minutes.  During this time, the injured worker will complete several repetitive motions and movements. These motions and movements will require them to lift, push and pull various weights and objects, all while being measured for strength and endurance.  The patients also have their subjective pain level monitored and accessed during the testing procedures.
A FCE provides our physicians with valuable information, allowing them to safely release a worker back to his or her work at a safe intensity level.  The test can also provide information to help identify those individuals who are not giving a full effort during the test.
